motley items of excitement, entertainment, and enlightenment, and also adds
aroma to the sands, cultures, and history of magnificent Rajasthan. Held every
year in the month of Kartik, this much awaited Fair is exclusively abundant
in bedecked camels and cattle, various interesting and adventurous competitions,
jostling rustic crowd, saints and sages meditating and taking holy dip, stalls
of various indigenous things, etc.
About Pushkar Fair
Pushkar Fair is one of the famous Fair in
India.
Held every year in the township of Pushkar, Rajasthan, in the Hindu month
of Kartik (in November ), the Pushkar Fair is the most prominent and world's
largest camel fair, organized to serve both the commerce and devotion. It is
a long -awaited occasion for the villagers from far and near to get together
and enjoy a welcome break from their harsh daily life of the arid desert. It
is also the cherished occasion for Hindu pilgrims to make holy dips (snan )
in the sacred Pushkar Lake to "wash away the sins of a lifetime" and
pay obeisance at the only Brahma temple in the world. It is perhaps the most
suitable opportunity for capturing the vibrancy of the entire Rajasthan at one
location. Bazaars, auctions, music and sports are highlights of this event,
besides the devotion. It also offers some of the most exquisite handcrafted
items of Rajasthan. The festival is well organized with scrupulous arrangement
for accommodation in the tents.

The fair in conjunction with having religious entity is famous for its Cattle
Fair. Camels, Horses, Donkeys, Bulls, etc are bought, sold, beautified, raced
and paraded on the sand. In fact, the fair is predominantly a rural gathering,
where villagers from different parts of state comes with their animals and lakes
are flooded with the pilgrims for the Holy Dips (SNAN).
The evenings are possessed with its own charm, Deepdaan creates a spectacular
view on the scared lake. The silent night pierced by camel calls, folk lores,
dramas and heart throbbing beats of folk music and dances.
The fair attracts a great number of tourists from far and wide. The fair grounds
reverberate with festivity, as rows of make shift stalls display a bewildering
array items. Body tattooing is yet another favorite activity. The profusion
of colors that run riot in the desert sand, the glee and the contagious enthusiasm
of the village folk are a unique experience for every visitor.
The village is arranged in blocks of tents, each with its own identity, named
after the famous dance of Rajasthan. The village also has huts with attached
western style toilets and running water.
